At the Reliance Industries Limited media and analyst call, Kevin Vaz, CEO – Entertainment, JioStar elaborated that Jio Star, the newest business in the Reliance family, is just eight months old, and its streaming platform, Jio Hotstar, launched only five months ago.
Despite its recent inception, this past quarter has emerged as not only the company’s most important quarter to date, but also its biggest. The importance of this quarter stems from the fact that its performance lays the foundation for the rest of the year. The scale and success of the IPL, one of India’s most significant sporting events, elevated the impact of this quarter, setting new benchmarks across digital and television platforms.
The IPL this year was approached strategically and divided into three parts to better assess performance—the opening weekend, the tournament phase, and the finale. It was crucial to have a strong opening, and the numbers reflect this success. On the opening weekend alone, Jio Hotstar and its television counterpart delivered 1.4 billion digital views. The television reach extended to 253 million viewers, while the overall watch time for the opening weekend totaled an impressive 49.6 billion minutes.

This year marked the first time the digital and TV sides came together, formerly managed separately by Disney and Jio Cinema. Their unified approach delivered outstanding results. As the tournament progressed, the momentum sustained historic numbers. The IPL 2025 achieved the highest reach ever witnessed, with 652 million viewers on digital and 537 million on TV.
